  9. Dimethicone & Amodimethicone It acts as a protective layer to your hair shaft but over time, builds up residue on your scalp. It prevents moisture from entering the hair and can cause scalp irritation by clogging the pores.

  10. DEA compounds (diethanolamine) It can destroy keratin - a key component of hair. This ultimately leads to dry, brittle hair.

  11. Triclosan A common antimicrobial chemical used in personal care products, but it is also a known endocrine disruptor and skin irritant.

  12. Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) This ingredient has been tied to skin & eye irritation, as well as blistering and burning for more sensitive skin.

  13. Siloxanes It can block other nourishing ingredients from penetrating deep into the hair follicle. Over time, silicone can also build up on your hair, resulting in a dry feel and dull appearance.

  14. MIT (Isothiazolinones) It is also a known dermatological sensitizer and allergen; some of its side effects include flaky or scaly skin, breakouts, redness or itchiness, and moderate to severe swelling.

  15. Nitrosamines It’s considered to be strong carcinogens that may produce cancer in diverse organs and tissues.

  16. Sodium c-14-16 Olefin Sulfonate It may strip away too much moisture, leaving the hair dry and unhealthy. They may also make the scalp dry and prone to irritation.

  17. Retinyl Palmitate, Vitamin A, or Retinol A common ingredient found in skincare products, retinol can cause itching, scaling, and peeling of the skin.

  18. Talc It can clog hair follicles and potentially cause hair breakage.

  19. 1,4 dioxane When applied with certain preparations such as lotions, 1,4-dioxane penetrates the skin easily. Exposure to high quantities, 1,4-dioxane is a probable carcinogen.

  20. Polyacrylamide It is relatively low in toxicity, but its precursor acrylamide is a neurotoxin and carcinogen.
